Easter and Austrian wine dinner at Humble Grape

Easter at Humble Grape means a few things: the terraces are open, the Sunday roasts are back (still undefeated), and this year we're pouring our way through one of Europe's most underrated wine regions. Austria has arrived — and it brought a fifth-generation winemaker with it.

Whether you're planning a long family lunch, hunting for wine gifts with a bit more imagination than the usual bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, or simply looking for the best wine bars in London to spend the long weekend, we've got your Easter sorted.

Easter Menus, Terraces & Opening Times

The Food

Spring is finally giving us something to work with, and our menus reflect it. Lighter dishes, built for longer days — the kind of food that sits beautifully alongside a chilled glass of white wine or a textural, low-intervention rosé on the terrace.

The Easter Sunday roast needs no introduction, but we'll give it one anyway: proper, full-blown, entirely satisfying — with a children's option so the whole family can pile in without compromise. It's the kind of lunch you plan your weekend around.

Easter Opening Times

Here's where to find us over the bank holiday weekend:

  • Fleet Street & Bow Lane — Closed Good Friday (3rd April) and Easter Monday (6th April)

  • Liverpool Street — Open Good Friday (3rd April) and Easter Saturday (4th April); Closed Easter Monday (6th April)

  • Battersea, Canary Wharf & Islington — Open as usual throughout Easter

Austria: The Wine Region That Deserves Far More Credit

Ask someone to name a great European wine region and you'll hear Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rioja — reliably, predictably, every time. Austria barely gets a mention, and that, frankly, is a mistake we're on a mission to correct.

Austrian wine is almost entirely produced by small, family-owned estates. There's no industrial formula here, no corporate scale. What you find instead is winemaking that is deeply rooted in the land, driven by people who have been tending the same vineyards for generations — and producing wines that consistently over-deliver for their price.

The majority of producers lean organic, biodynamic, or low-intervention by instinct rather than trend. It's simply how wine has always been made here. For us at Humble Grape — where every bottle on our list must meet sustainable standards — it's a natural fit.

Gregor Schup: Five Generations of Austrian Winemaking

Deep in the Wienerwald, in the little town of Guntramsdorf, the Schup family has been making wine for over 300 years. Gregor is the fifth generation to run the estate — which means he carries with him centuries of accumulated knowledge, an extraordinary sense of place, and wines that feel genuinely earned rather than manufactured.

We know Gregor personally. That matters to us. We directly import 95% of our wines and build real relationships with our producers — which is why when Gregor comes to London, it feels less like a brand event and more like welcoming an old friend. One who happens to make exceptional wine.

Austrian Winemaker Dinner — 13th April | Bow Lane | £125 per person

Three hours. Six wines. Five courses from our Executive Chef. This is a proper sit-down journey through Austria — indulgent, immersive, and the kind of evening that ends with everyone at the table agreeing they need to visit Guntramsdorf. Tickets are limited and this one sells out, so move quickly.

Austrian Winemaker Tasting — 14th April | Islington | £64 per person

A more relaxed format, but no less rewarding. Join us and Gregor Schup at Humble Grape Islington for a guided tasting of six of his finest bottles, with a welcome drink to kick things off. It's laid-back and high-flavour — perfect for wine enthusiasts looking to explore a new region, or anyone curious about what biodynamic and low-intervention winemaking actually tastes like when done by someone with 300 years of family practice behind them.
