Here’s a New Year’s resolution for you: time to start thinking about quality instead of quantity. We’re not really the Dry January types (quelle surprise) so we thought we’d start the year off in what we think is the right way – and provide a healing experience for anyone who’s had to spend the holidays drinking inferior fizz. Join us in Battersea on 24th of January for a evening tasting of fantastic fizz.
Often people drink sparkling wine too infrequently to be able to figure out what they truly like best; we’re hoping to change that for you as early in 2018 as we can.
We’ve collected seven of our favourite sparkling wines from France, Italy, Spain and South Africa. Wine Expert Des will be on hand, full of facts, intuitive ways to think about and describe wines, and the usual cavalcade of stories straight from the vineyard.
While you’re tasting, we’ll take the edge off your appetite (and perhaps soak up some of those bubbles) with our patented wine-friendly platters.
This is a tasting where the line up does the talking; see below for our list of excellent effervescence.
Rebuli Prosecco Brut, NV, Treviso DOC, Veneto, Italy – A round, fruity spumante for any time of the day. This is delicious on its own but, like the colour black, goes with everything.
Ghisolana Prosecco Over 100 Extra Dry, NV, Asolo Superiore DOCG, Veneto, Italy – Extra dry but much richer and more complex than your average Prosecco, this shows that Italian sparkling ain’t just frivolous fizz.
Llopart Reserva Brut, 2013, Cava, Penedès, Spain – Full of Xarel-lo – the aromatic variety considered the finest Cava grape – this is rich and toasty and just a little sweet. Sip it, savour it.
Domaine du Landreau Crémant de Loire, 2010, Loire Valley, France – Brisker than a cold shower, and the fizz is long lasting but not too aggressive, so you can linger over it or knock it back in sweet celebration.
Bartinney Noble Savage Methode Cap Classique, NV, Stellenbosch, South Africa – Sassy, creamy and playfully exuberant. This lady ain’t a savage, but she’s got killer heels on and is ready to dance.
Domaine André Bonhomme Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Blanc de Blancs, 2013, Mâconnais, Burgundy, France – Made in the same way as Champagne but in Burgundy, this staggeringly good sparkling is a wonderful, well-kept secret. Shh.
Bernard Lonclas Cuvée Prestige, NV, Champagne, France – Bernard Lonclas says that this “can be drunk at any time and until dawn.” And Mr. Lonclas is basically Champagne personified, so we take him at his word.
