Marcel Lapierre Morgon (Magnum)
Product Description
Sadly, Marcel Lapierre passed away end of 2010 at the age of 60 ….he was one of the pioneering natural winemakers in Beaujolais, an understudy of the great Jules Chauvet and one of a small group of producers who raised the bar in the region and revitalised the reputation of the wines of Beaujolais…..the wines of Marcel Lapierre were also one of the first to turn me on to the whole natural/authentic wine thing so they are a bit of a touchstone for this wine drinker.
Marcel took over the family estate Domaine Des Chênes in Villié-Morgon, in 1973…..in 1981 he met the grandfather of the natural wine movement, Jules Chauvet and began introducing biodynamic practises, natural ferments, low SO2 and moving away from intervention both in the vineyard and the cellar

| Tasting note | Quite deeply coloured in the glass….Bright, lovely concentrated wild cherry and strawberry fruit on the palate showing a fair amount of oomph but at the same time, silken, pure and poised just so. Hints of spice, herbs, grilled meat, minerals and dried flowers vie for your attention though nothing juts out….all is in place. Deep, pure fruit flows across the back palate with great exuberance and persistence with a raft of fine-grained, granitic tannin. |
